How we check pools
Every checked fact has a source and a date. Everything else is marked as not yet checked.
What the labels mean
Pool checked We've confirmed the pool details with the hotel, on its official website or in person, on the date shown on the Pool Card.
Swum here One of our editors has swum in the pool. We only use this label after a real visit, with the date.
Not yet checked Where details are marked 'Not yet checked', we only show what we know for certain: whether there's a pool and whether it's indoor or outdoor. This is a normal status, not a warning.
Seasonal An outdoor pool that closes for part of the year, shown once we have confirmed the months.
Family swim We've confirmed set swim times for children.

Pool classes
- Lap pool: a checked length of 15 metres or more, long enough for lengths.
- Leisure pool: a checked length of 8 to 15 metres.
- Plunge pool: a checked length under 8 metres, or a plunge pool in a spa.
- Fun pool: a park pool with confirmed water slides or water play.
We only give a class once the length is checked. We never estimate it from photos.
Where the facts come from
Pool type, number of pools, children's pools, water slides, spa facilities and whether dogs are allowed come from our booking partners' listings. Length, temperature, times, season and day passes come only from the hotel or park itself: its official website, a written confirmation or a visit. Every checked fact carries the month we checked it. Where we haven't visited yet, our review is based on the hotel's own information, facilities data and guest feedback.
How often we recheck
- Outdoor pools: every March for the coming season, and again in October.
- Day pass and membership prices: every quarter. Prices older than six months are hidden.
- Guest ratings and review counts: refreshed regularly from our booking partners.
How we sort lists
Lists show hotels first, then holiday parks and then cottages and other self-catering stays. Within each group we sort by the number of guest reviews combined with the guest rating. Commission never changes the order.
Pool Score
Our Pool Score will combine the pool itself (30%), when you can use it (25%), guest ratings (20%), extras (10%) and, where we've visited, our own inspection (15%). A score only appears on pools we have checked.
